About Worldwide Canoeing & Kayaking

We have developed this site especially to bring the canoeing and kayaking community together enabling our members to keep in touch with fellow canoeists and kayakers, sharing experiences, videos, blogs, news and much more. Best of all it's all FREE.......

Where did Worldwide Canoeing & Kayaking come from?

The idea of providing a single comprehensive resource for Kayakers and Canoeists was born in Bali of all places, and started life as a social networking / information site for recreational scuba divers!

Adam Short & Sally TrenchAdam Short, founder and sole developer of the Worldwide network, and Sally Trench (travel pal), both explored the world together gaining new experiences and learning from the various cultures they visited.  Whilst travelling both Adam & Sally learned to scuba dive and found the need for a web site that accurately identifies dive sites and dive centres.  Another requirement for the site was the need to network, find new friends with similar interests.  Thus Worldwide Diving was born.  The basic format for that site was then rolled out to cover the other activities Adam & Sally have participated in, Kayaking being a particular passion of Sally's.

Nearly a year on and we now have 14 web sites covering various activities from Scuba Diving and Kayaking to Snowboarding and Travelling.  New features are being developed all the time, the most recent of which are the downloadable PDF guides, Google Earth overlays and the BETA version of the Garmin SatNav import.

Who are we?

Where's Sally?

Nobody knows!!!!!!!  But she is always welcome to come playboat with us.

How are we funded?

Essentially we are a FREE information and social networking web site for those who like to paddle. Membership is free and we also offer advertising in exchange for benefits for our members, discounts, special rates etc.. we are non-profit making.

Non-profit making? How is it funded? We have leased our Social Networking system to other companies, those fees pay for the running costs of our servers, the rest is done out of passion for the sport.

LATEST : We've buckled under the pressure and launched our own range of fashion clothes!  We're hoping this will help us to pay for our server fees and eventually upgrade to larger servers.

A few facts!

Currently there are 14 social networking web sites linked together using one single logn.

All the sites have been partially translated into 53 different languages using our own learning (artificially intelligent) translation system.

To properly map all the websites for Google to accurately index the content takes 34,296 sitemaps.

Information isprovided for 245 countries, 4,358 counties/districts and 2,713,240 places.

It takes one person to run and administer all 14 web sites, me!

In total the websites contain approximately 144,273,261 pages of information.  This is only approximate as pages are being added all the time, not only by us, but also by the members.

What does the future hold?

Who knows!  Watch this space!

Thank you Sara, I'm sure that there are plenty of other errors that need correcting, every little helps. I have now corrected the name and look forward to perhaps paddling it one day. Maybe you could give me the heads up!
